This site is run by Stephen Heath, trading as The Classics Classroom, from Thornford, Dorset. I am the data controller for anything you send me, and I am the only person who sees it.
What I collect, and when
Only what you type into the enquiry form or put in an email: your name, your email address, the subject and level you are asking about, and your message. If you buy a resource, also which one, which licence, and whether it has been paid for.
I collect nothing myself simply because you are reading these pages. Two outside services do see a little, as they would for almost any website:
- Netlify, which hosts the site, records the internet (IP) address of each visitor in its server logs, to deliver the pages and keep the service secure. It is based in the United States. See Netlify’s privacy policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, so your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address when it does. Google says it does not use this to build profiles or target advertising. See Google’s note on Fonts and privacy.
I do not see or receive either of these records.
If you become a client I will also hold the practical things any tutor holds — lesson times, the pupil’s year group and school, work they have sent me to mark, and a record of what has been paid.
What I do with it
I use it to answer you, to arrange and teach lessons, and to send invoices. That is the whole of it. I do not sell it, share it for marketing, or send newsletters. I will not pass it to anyone else unless the law requires me to.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that come to nothing are deleted within a year. Records for people I have taught are kept for six years after the last lesson, because HMRC requires it of business records, and then deleted.
Where it is kept
In my email account, which is hosted by 123 Reg, and on my own computer, both password-protected. If the enquiry form is connected to a form-handling service, your message passes through that service on its way to me and is held on its servers under its own privacy terms.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies. There is no analytics, no advertising network and no tracking of any kind, which is why you have not been asked to agree to anything. If that ever changes — if I add visitor statistics, for instance — this page will say so, and you will be asked first.
What you can ask me to do
You can ask to see what I hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Write to me and I will do it, normally within a few days and at no charge. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Where the pupil is under 18, I deal with the parent or guardian, and it is the parent or guardian who provides the information and gives consent.
